Don't Pass Me By

One day a stranger walked by me Crinkled eyes, snowy hair, broken knee Tattered with a bleak future In immediate need of food, no place for shelter. He asked me, " Sir, I'm hungry, would you be kind? " I said to him softly, " No money have I, but I'll buy you food with these gift cards of mine." He thanked me and asked how shall I ever pay this deed I said no, " there's no need, it was my pleasure indeed. I gazed at him, in his eyes where hopelessness lay Trying to figure out how he lived everyday He walked all day long, had no one to talk Went from one person to another, let them mock. As we walked to the nearby store Like a kid, he picked something and asked for more I told him to take whatever he needs Because in life I have done some bad deeds. I can't forget him, as he walked to his way He taught be something true, made my day He gave me a chance to do what I can A chance to be helpful, to be the real gentleman. I will always remember this old friend in rags For teaching me happiness in a few grocery bags For letting me be the one who had more For letting me answer his knock on my door. I'm no angel, I just helped a friend He made me a better man, his wiseness lend And this stranger who I didn't walked pass by Casted an angel in me, ready to fly.
