NEEDS

This articles is about the needs of an individual – in much broader sense.

All of us have certain basic needs that must be met in order for us to survive. If these needs are not met, we will die or else will cease to function on a positive psychological, sociological, or emotional level.

According to the traditional definition, the needs can be classified into 5 categories which are:

1. Psychological – such as oxygen, food, water, and elimination.

2. Safety, which includes shelter, clothing, and protection from hostile beings and the environment.

3. Love and belonging, which includes close family, friendship, and love ties.

4. Self Esteem, which includes feeling good about oneself, one’s job, status, work, and career.

5. Self-Actualization, which is the fulfillment of creativity, peace with oneself, and detachment from stressors.

In the modern era, these needs can be more finely fabricated.

A need to change or alter conscious awareness is also an important need. This appears to be a need that transcends culture, race, age, intelligence.

In the words of William Shakespeare:

All the worlds a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits, and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.

These lines capture the essence of social roles.  Think of how many roles you play in a single day, e.g. son, daughter, sister, brother, students, worker, friend etc.  Each social role carries expected behaviours which need to be fulfilled.

As the future of India, We are responsible to fight against corruption, discrimination, caste prejudices and related sensitive issues. Being the part of the youth, it’s my responsibility to create sustainable development, change the mentality of the people, take the country forward, change the education system and also explore new ventures.

REMEMBER, you can retire from a job, but don’t ever retire from making extremely meaningful contributions in life. When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.
